A 38-year-old drug suspect was shot and killed after he shot at a Cordova police officer during a buy-bust operation yesterday in Barangay San Miguel, Cordova town in Mactan Island.

Jeffrey Daan, 38, of Barangay San Miguel, died of the gunshot wounds in his body at the Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital, said Senior Insp. Jomar Medil, Cordova Police chief.

Medil said that they considered Daan as a high value target in their anti-illegal drugs campaign and had been monitoring his alleged illegal drug activities for about a month.

Medil said at past 1 p.m. yesterday, they conducted the buy-bust operation, but when Daan realized that he was transacting with an undercover police officer, Daan allegedly pulled out a gun and fired at the the undercover police officer.

Daan missed when the police officer ducked. The other police officers then fired at the suspect hitting him several times on the body.

Police confiscated from the suspect several packs of suspected shabu worth at least P338,000, two .45 caliber pistols, P9,360 cash, which was believed to be proceeds of his illegal trade, and drug paraphernalia.
