Alisoso-Balaba rules White Feathers badminton

THE power-smashing duo of Carlo Alisoso and James Balaba reigned supreme in the centerpiece Open category of the White Feathers Badminton Club Tournament held last Saturday at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Alisoso and Balaba outlasted the tandem of Don Hayag and Prinz Gantuangko, 21-12, 19-21, 21-18, to snare the premier crown of the competition held in line with the White Feathers Badminton Club’s 7th year anniversary.

In the Supermixed doubles division, which is a combination of advanced and beginner players, Balaba teamed up with Ritchie Illaga to survive another three-set thriller agaainst Jose Jason Villarba and Roy Arellano, 21-16, 18-21, 21-10 in the finals.

The pair of Mimi Dacalos and Don Hayag, on the other hand, trounced Illaga and Mary Camello, 21-13, 21-19 to capture the gold in the Mixed doubles category.

Jessa Lagat and Lorna Lumapat topped the women’s doubles category after crushing Roselle Canoy and Hazel Libato, 21-17, 21-10.

Meanwhile, in the Executives category, Engineers Sanver Mapula and Renan Cabigon trounced Arnel Marinay and Roy Arellano, 21-18, 21-15, to rule the division.

White Feathers Badminton Club President Atty. Rodulfo Dacalos Jr. told Cebu Daily News that his group is now planning to hold the Sinulog Badminton Tournament next year.

Last Saturday’s tournament was sponsored by Ricky Ballesteros, the Cebu City Sports Center, Danny Villagracia, the Cebu City Sports Commission, Oliver Sato, Jerome Barbanida, and Taft Properties.
