A 13-year old boy from Cebu City drowned during a birthday celebration in a beach resort of Liloan town, some 18.8 km north of Cebu City.
Tommy Catilcong was with his elder sister Mildred, 17 when they attended a birthday party of a neighbor, Famkie Olam held in Pilapil’s Park beach resort in Catarman, Liloan.
The resort is within the vicinity of the Suba bridge where the current of water is strong.
PO1 Christian Laurito, investigator of the Liloan police station, said the celebration started on Wednesday morning.
Laurito said Tommy, his sister and other friends were frolicking in the waters when Mildred suddenly noticed that her brother was swept away by the strong current of water.
“Mildred was able to hold his younger brother but lost grip. He then disappeared into the waters,” Laurito said.
The group called for assistance and search and rescue operation was conducted.
At 4:52 p.m., the body of Tommy was found within the vicinity of a resort near the Suba bridge.
Laurito said Tommy was brought to Mendero Medical Center in Consolacion but was pronounced dead on arrival.
