Police to cemetery goers: Be security conscious

Be security conscious.” This was the advice of Chief Supt. Noli Taliño, director of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), to the public as they celebrate All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day next week.
As much as possible, he said, someone should be left to guard their homes while other members of the family visit the cemetery.
If there’s no one to secure the house, he said all the doors should be locked.
“Bear in mind that there are people who want to take advantage of the situation. We must be ready,” he said during the Talakayan sa Isyung Police (TSIP) forum at the PRO-7 Media Center yesterday.
Taliño said policemen will be deployed to the different cemeteries, seaports, airport, and other places of convergence to maintain peace and order.
The local police will be reinforced by soldiers from the Armed Forces’ Central Command.
Taliño, meanwhile, cleared the region of the presence of the bandit group Abu Sayyaf.
“There is nothing to worry about. There is no cause for alarm,” he said.
Upon validation, the PRO-7 found out that there are no members of Abu Sayyaf in Cebu.
Although members of the terrorist group were not spotted in Cebu recently, he said the public should remain alert.
“Please report an unusual activities or the presence of suspicious-looking people,” he said.
Last Monday, PRO-7 called on the public to be extra cautious after receiving intelligence reports on the presence of six members of the Abu Sayyaf group led by Commander Alhabsi Misaya in Cebu over the weekend.
The same information was received by the Cebu City-based Armed Forces’ Central Command.
Photographs of Misaya were immediately disseminated in the different police stations in Cebu as well as in malls and other business establishments. The report later turned out to be false.
