Guards nip RP in RCBL hoop

THE two-time defending champion Guards continued their dominance over Recoletos Pilipinas (RP), chalking up an 85–77 win yesterday in the 11th Recoletos de Cebu Basketball League (RCBL) at the University of San Jose – Recoletos (USJR) main quadrangle.

Jonathan Montebon dropped two free throws in the final 33 seconds, capping a back-breaking 10-2 run that sealed the Guards’ second straight win.

Julian Godinez top scored for the Guards with 23 points, while Montebon chipped in 20 markers.

Ranel Embalzado finished with 15 points for RP, which tasted its first loss in two outings.

The game was a rematch of last year’s championship duel that saw the Guards trampling RP, 97–80.

In the other game, the Our Lady of Consolation Parish-Recoletos De Laray cagers pocketed their first victory by downing Pacubas- Basak (0-2), 101–94.

Also winning were the Campus Planners (2-0), who defeated Pacubas-Main (0-2), 94–88.
