Landslides hit 4 barangays in Cebu City, Asturias road
RAINS in the past few days have caused minor landslides in some mountain barangays in Cebu City and in a town in midwestern Cebu.
At least four incidents of landslides and soil erosions have been reported in four different mountain barangays as of yesterday, said Nagiel Bañacia, Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CCDRRMO) head, yesterday.
These barangays are Pamutan, Toong, Babag and Kalunasan.
“In the first three barangays, the landslides involved rocks and soil falling from the mountainside and ending up in roads. There were no reported injuries,” he said.
In the Barangay Kalunasan incident, a kitchen area of a house was slightly damaged, but no one was injured in the minor landslide.
He said that CCDRRMO personnel and equipment had been deployed in the affected areas to clear the debris.
He also advised people residing in mountain barangays to remain vigilant especially when it rains.
Asturias town
In Asturias town, midwestern Cebu, a landslide closed a lane of the two-lane national road in Barangay New Bago, which connects Asturias to the neighboring town of Tuburan.
Mark Supatan, head of municipal disaster risk reduction management office (MDRRMO) in Asturias said that the damaged gravel road was noticed yesterday morning.
The MDRRMO placed “slow down” signages before and after the national road in Barangay New Bago to remind the public to be more careful in passing by.
Engineer Joselito Sayson, officer-in-charge of construction of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH-7) said that motorists could still pass by the area by using the lane not affected by the landslide.
He also advised motorists from taking the alternate route in Barangay Sta. Lucia, which is a cemented road, if the New Bago road would become impassable.
