CEBUANO creatives are making waves in the local film industry as two films brought home awards for this year’s Cinema One Originals.
The Cebuano film “Lily” got four awards: Best Editing Award for Lawrence Ang, Best Supporting Actress for Natileigh Sitoy, Best Actor for Rocky Salumbides and Cebuano and Binisaya Film Festival founder Keith Deligero as Best Director.
The film, which stars Shaina Magdayao, follows the story of a popular Cebu urban legend about a woman rumored to be a murderous shape-shifting monster.
Meanwhile, a student filmmaker from the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJ-R) also went home a victor, during the awarding ceremony held at Dolphy Theater last Sunday night (November 20).
The film “No Seguir” directed by USJ-R student Niño Justin Tecson bested nine other films, bagging the C1 Minute Top Student Film Award.
The one-minute film touches on a timely theme—extrajudicial killings. It allows the youth to reimagine Jose Rizal, our national hero, in recent times, as a victim of extrajudicial killing.
