A physician was arrested by the police on Saturday afternoon after he was caught in possession of suspected shabu inside his clinic in Cordova town on Mactan Island.

Dr. Benjamin Degamo, 42, who lives and holds clinic at his home on Golden Meadows Subdivision in Barangay Gabi, Cordova, is currently detained at the Cordova Police Station pending the filing of drug possession charges against him on Monday, said PO3 Eleazar Llanes of the Cordova police.

Llanes said he led a team who responded to a call from PO1 Ricky Pepito, also from the Cordova police, who happened to be at Degamo’s clinic past 2 p.m. on Saturday for a consultation on his insomia and saw a suspicious looking man handing a small package to the doctor.

Pepito accosted Degamo and found him holding two small plastic sachet of suspected shabu (methamphetamine). But the drug courier was able to escape.

Llanes said they later learned from drug pusher-surrenderers in Cordova that the doctor was allegedly a known drug user in the area who would usually hire the services of errand boys to buy drugs for him.
