Lapu-Lapu City will be spruced up for Miss U
LAPU-LAPU City is now sprucing up its major thoroughfares in a beautification project that will ensure a good impression from visitors expected to flock to the city for the swimwear presentation of the Miss Universe contest, which will be staged at JPark Resort and Water Park on Jan. 17 next year.
Mayor Paz Radaza said she has tasked the city engineering office to monitor the cleanup drive in the flood-prone Barangays Maribago and Agus, and the ongoing drainage project in Barangay Buaya.
Radaza also had talks with Department of Education (DepEd) officials for the deployment of the students along the route where the Miss Universe convoy of vehicles will pass, from the Mactan-Cebu International Airport to JPark Resort in Barangay Agus.
She said that since the city is not allowed to spend for the Miss Universe activity, they had instead tapped the help of DepEd and opted on fixing and beautifying the streets.
Radaza said she would also suggest to the organizers to set up wide screens outside JPark or at the city’s Hoops Dome for the live streaming of the Miss Universe swimwear presentation since the area inside the resort cannot accommodate a huge crowd. JPark will be selling tickets for the presentation, but it has yet to announce the ticket price.
Radaza said they aim to present a very festive mood as a way of warmly welcoming into the city the candidates and organizers of the Miss Universe 2017.
The swimwear presentation at JPark will be the only pageant event to be held outside of Metro Manila.
“It would definitely bring very good impact to Lapu-Lapu City as it is putting the city and Cebu on the spotlight,” said Radaza.
Radaza added she will also deploy barangay tanods and volunteers to assist policemen and soldiers who will secure the event.
