RDMNHS, USJ-R word wizards top Sinulog tourney

Word wizards from the Ramon Duterte Memorial National High School (RDMNHS) and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) topped the Sinulog Scrabble Open 2017 yesterday afternoon at the Cebu City Sports Institute in Brgy San Nicolas, Cebu City.

RDMNHS’ Mac Nicole Baclayon won all of his five games to top the high school division while Cebu Institute of Technology – University’s (CIT-U) Bea Datiles and RDMNHS’ Latiza Quijada took runner-up honors.

Meanwhile, USJR’s Chairylle Bucao also collected five wins to reign in the elementary division. Quiot Elementary School’s Vera Carao and Anthony Pepito finished as runners-up.

Quijada and Datiles tallied 532 points and 501 points, respectively, for the the highest single game honors in the high school division.

Quijada’s “Henners” and Abellana National School’s Jezzhail Alferez’s “Retsina” earned them the highest single turns in the high school division with 103 points and 84 points, respectively.

Bucao’s “tinware” was the highest single turn in the elementary division with 87 points. Teammate Lord Garnett Talisic tallied 604 points to claim the highest single game award.
