THE EXCITEMENT doesn’t stop at the Sinulog festival.

This, as Cebu hosts one of the biggest events for the 65th Miss Universe pageant—the swimwear presentation.

Candidates from all over the world will be here today at the JPark Island Resort and Waterpark, Cebu, to strut the runway in their swimwear.

But before we get into details, here’s what you should know about this year’s pageant, as the Philippines hosts the event after 23 years.

1. Complete for the first time. It’s going to be the first time that the 86 candidates from across the world will be gathered in one event and Cebu is lucky enough to be hosting it. According to Arthur Lo, media liaison offier of the Jpark Island and Waterpark Cebu, that Cebuanos are lucky to be chosen as the venue for the swimwear presentation, and everyone should help put the island on map with its picturesque beaches and crystal blue waters.

2. A phoneless Tuesday for Mactan. If everyone survived without signal during the two-day Sinulog, what’s another day to spend without texting, calling and internet? Both Smart and Globe telecoms have announced that they are temporarily suspending mobile phone services during the Miss Universe visit. Good thing it’s just part of Lapu-Lapu area. So, just keep your selfies till the signal comes back again.

3. Lechon will be served. Lechon or roasted pig has always been the first word that comes right out of mind when someone speaks about Cebu. According to Arthur, during the festive lunch, all 86 candidates can enjoy the best of lechon fpr today’s buffet.

4. Pia’s here. Dubbed as the ever hardworking Miss Universe title holder, Pia Wurtzbach will be here in Cebu to witness the swimwear presentation. She will be arriving today with former Ilocus Sur Governor Luis “Chavit” Singson on a private plane.

5. Sinulog experience. They may be arriving two days late for Sinulog, but the candidates will get to experience the festivity as Sinulog dancers will be performing during the festive lunch of the 86 Miss Universe candidates, shortly before the swimwear presentation

6. Local designers on the spotlight. The fun continuous at night as the evening gala will showcase the creations of 20 local designers headed by the renowned Cebuano designer Cary Santiago.

7. There’s an after party. The night wouldn’t end without some partying on the side. The bad news is half of the candidates will be leaving for another engagement but hey, there will be good music as Jpark Island Resort and Waterpark Cebu will be hosting a Havana DJ Party featuring Djs Callum David, Carlo Atendido, Bright Side and Ashura, rappers and singers Yuki and Yheen.
