CEBUANA volleybelle Marianne Calinawan and partner MJ Ebro hope to send shockwaves as they lead Far Eastern University’s (FEU) bid in the star-studded Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) On Tour Tournament today at the Bonuan Blue Beach in Dagupan City.

The 19-year old Calinawan who moved to the Morayta-based school in July of last year, hasn’t appeared in a single UAAP game this season as the former Southwestern University star is currently serving a one-year residency.

Although she has played a few beach volleyball games back in the Cesafi, Calinawan revealed that her overall game is built primarily in indoor competitions but said she’s taking this tournament as a new challenge for her to improve the various parts of her game.

“It’s exciting and I feel nervous at the same time because they are already veterans and I’m still not used to playing beach volley. But whatever the result in the tournament, I want to take it as a stepping stone to mature in and out of the court,” Calinawan said.

The FEU duo will go up against the brightest beach spikers in the country in Charo Soriano and Bea Tan of BVR Team A, the BVR Team B trio of Dzi Gervacio, Amy Ahomiro and Fille Cainglet-Cayetano, and the tandem of Melissa Gohing and Elaine Kasilag of the Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors.
