AFTER a sloppy start, the Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) finally barged into the win column with a 5-2 win over the Don Bosco United in the men’s open of the ongoing Mayor’s Football Invitational Tournament at the Cebu City Sports Center yesterday.
Cviraa, composed of players from Don Bosco Technological and PAREF Springdale, defeated Don Bosco United behind Leo Maquiling’s hat trick.
The team, which is preparing for the Palarong Pambansa to be held in Antique Province next month, opened their campaign last Monday with a loss to Vantage FC. Cviraa lost again on Tuesday against Samba FC.
It was a different story yesterday when Maquiling almost single handedly carried Cviraa to victory after making goals in the 16th, 31st and 80th minute. Pietre Dakay and John Clyde Vitualla chipped in one goal apiece to peg the final score.
Men’s open division leader Vantage FC, meanwhile, remained unbeaten after beating University of San Carlos, 2-1.
