3 trucks now working after repair

By: Inna Mejia April 27,2017 - 09:33 PM

THE heavy equipment acquired by the Cebu City government almost 20 years ago are now working after undergoing repair.

The city spent more than P100,000 for the repair.

The two Hino dump trucks and one prime mover were transported to the mountain barangays in the city to help in the maintenance of roads.

General Services Office (GSO) head Ronaldo Malacora said the trucks were purchased during Mayor Tomas Osmeña’s first term of office.

Malacora said six more dump trucks are set for rehabilitation.

To recall, these trucks were said to be assembled with knockdown surplus parts.

“The trucks are more or less 20 years old but performance wise these are still good. They are like brand new compared to the trucks made in China,” he said.

Malacora said at least 30 trucks purchased during the past administration have already broken down. He said he will recommend to the mayor to avoid purchasing trucks made from China.

He said some spare parts are not available here.

“It (trucks made in China) is much cheaper, but we will have a problem with the maintenance. It costs between P3 million to P5 million while the branded trucks are expensive. Around P6–8 million,” he said.
