AFTER a successful stint in the Palarong Pambansa, Cebuana netter Elsie Abarquez looks to sustain her hot run as she competes in the Palawan Pawnshop – Palawan Express Pera Padala (PPS-PEPP) regional tennis tournament, which starts today in Maasin City, Leyte.
The 15-year-old Abarquez, who won a silver medal in the doubles category and a bronze in the team event in the Palarong Pambansa last month in Antique, has been on fire lately, showing the entire country why she’s one of the best up-and-coming netters by winning six titles just for the month of April.
She admitted it won’t be a walk in the park for her in Maasin but the Carcar, Cebu native said she is ready for the competition.
“It will be hard for me to win a title because there are so many good players participating but I will just do my best to have a good performance,” said Abarquez, who will be competing in the 16-under and 18-under singles competition.
Abarquez will begin her quest for titles on Tuesday against Elna Beronio and Jenica Torres in the 16-under and 18-under girls divisions, respectively.
Meanwhile, Naga Cebu’s Venz Alforque, who won the 16-under boys’ title in the Baybay City leg last Saturday, hopes to pick up where he left off as he contends in the 16-under and 18-under boys divisions. /Correspondent
