A centenarian was greeted by Mayor Paz Radaza at her residence in Pangan-an Island, Lapu-Lapu City yesterday afternoon.
Faustina Sobiono, 104, did not notice at first that Mayor Radaza approached her until the mayor introduced herself.
Sobiono then greeted the mayor with a big smile and invited the mayor to sit.
After several minutes of talk, Mayor Radaza handed to her an envelope with an undetermined amount of cash as birthday present.
Sobiono thanked the mayor for visiting her.
Sobiono’s daughter Jovita Cabilao, 59, said her mother doesn’t like to eat pork but only vegetables and fish, which she believes makes her live longer.
Sobiono is the eldest in a brood of nine and the lone survivor of all the siblings. She has eight children and 52 grandchildren.
Radaza told Sobiono that the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) has already contacted the local social welfare office for the possible giving of P100,000 as cash gift.
Every year since Sobiono turned 100 years old, Mayor Radaza, together with Pangan-an barangay captain Virgilio Casiao, would visit Sobiono and bring food, drinks, a birthday cake and cash for her.
