CEBUANO K-Pop fans are in for a grander and more exciting Cebu K-Pop Star competition this year.

Now on its seventh year, the annual competition will offer more prizes including a chance to represent the Philippines in the 2017 K-Pop World Festival in South Korea in September with the support of the Korean Consulate in Cebu.

The lucky teams will be especially handpicked by representatives of the Korean Consulate during the auditions for the Cebu K-Pop Star tomorrow at the Icon Club.

According to Consul General Oh Sung Yong, there will be a total of 130 participants during the auditions on Sunday —100 groups and 30 soloists.

“The Korean Consulate Office in Cebu will choose two teams to be sent off to Korea,” added Consul Park Seong Ho during a luncheon with members of the media.

Consul Park said though that they will still be deliberating later on if the two selected contestants are deserving enough to be sent to Korea.

Videos of the contestants’ performances will be sent to organizers of the 2017 K-Pop World Festival for them to decide if they will qualify.

But for sure, the two selected contestants will also be awarded by the Consulate with a P10,000 cash prize each during this Sunday’s audition.

Another group will also be sent to another K-Pop contest in Manila although details are not yet available.

After this Sunday’s auditions, the Cebu Korean Association (CKA), which is organizing the Cebu K-Pop Star, will trim down the number of contestants to 50.

They will then go through a Pre-Finals on August 13 at SM Seaside City Cebu.

After which, the Top 25 contestants will move on to the Finals on September 29 at SM City Cebu.

Cebu K-Pop is a talent competition where fans can form groups or go solo and perform covers of K-Pop songs. They can either sing, dance, or even do both.
