The Cebu City government plans to already dispose old and dilapidated vehicles to clear its junkyard and to raise revenues that will augment the city’s coffers.
Ronald Malacora of the Department of General Services said more than 200 unserviceable vehicles that have not been used since 2005 and 2006 now crowd the city’s junkyard.
Some of these vehicles are now covered in mud and overgrown grasses, he said.
“The primary purpose (of selling these vehicles) is to weigh these kay sayang (because it’s a waste if these continues to deteriorate). The more it deteriorates, the more its value will decrease. The government will be at a disadvantage,” Malacora said.
Malacora said DGS personnel have been doing inventories on unserviceable vehicles that are for disposal since last month.
Based on DGS record, there are more than 200 unserviceable vehicles that are now kept at the city’s junkyard located at the South Road Properties (SRP).
He said that they have so far identified 122 vehicles and heavy equipment that are now ready for disposal. These include multicabs, Tamaraw FXs, Toyota Innovas, mini dump trucks and other heavy equipment.
After they complete their inventory, Malacora said, City Hall will then seek the permission of the Commission on Audit (COA) to already sell these.
“Maybe by the end of the month, we will finish this (our inventory). Sayang lang ba kay natabunan nalang sa mga sagbot ug lapok. If ibaligya ni, makakwarta pa ang syudad, (It would be a waste if we do not sell the vehicles because these are now covered with weeds and mud. If we sell this, the city will earn),” Malacora said.
