Chinese New Year Fashion

Chinese New Year, also called the Spring Festival, is one of the biggest celebrations in Chinese culture and even non-Chinese all over the world like to get in on the party.

It’s about creating an auspicious energy to draw in the best possible things in one’s life. Feng shui also tells us that what you wear at the stroke of midnight could put you on the right track.

Color does matter, with red as key color since it symbolizes a bright and happy future.

But 2014 being the Year of the Wooden Horse, brown—the new black—is the shade to wear as well, along with green and other earth color combinations. Moreover, it’s said that blue and black will activate luck as these belong to the water element, which supports the growth of the wood element.

MAKEUP

“Makeup will be more playful, sultry and sophisticated. Bronzed look, softly sculpted face can create dimension to the face. A black liner is nothing new, but smudgy charcoal rimmed both top and lower lashes paired with silver grey eye shadow projects a sultry look with a touch of soft berry lips. Browns and a pop of greens are also wearable this season, the lucky colors of the year.

On model Liga, a smokey brown eye shadow blends well to compliment her face yet it tones down the strong character look to make it more dramatic rather than striking.”
