THE UNIVERSITY of San Carlos (USC) is still expected to be a force to reckon with in the upcoming Cesafi taekwondo tournament today at the Pacific Mall in Mandaue City.

The Warriors, last year’s champions in the men’s sparring competition, will be undermanned this year as the jins who helped them in their title run last year have already graduated.

“Our lineup for kyurogi is incomplete because most of them have already graduated, but we are really preparing for this school-based competition,” USC coach Glenn Lava said.

Lava is pinning his hopes on his poomsae wards this season.

“In poomsae, I’m sure we can get many medals,” Lava, a three-time poomsae world champion, said.

Expected to step up for USC are Maegan Bugarin, Jonsay Sanchez, Aldrein Abreion, Lee Navales and Nichole Maurin.

The tournament will also be participated by other powerhouse teams like the University of Cebu, Southwestern University, and University of San Jose -Recoletos.
