EMIL Gabuya sank a pressure-packed free-throw with just four seconds left to tow the 2008 Cottonseed to a pulsating 48-47 victory over the 2009 Crossfit Subtero and win the Division C title in the 22nd SHAABAA basketball tournament last Wednesday at the Ateneo de Cebu basketball court along Mango Avenue.
With the game tied at 47-all and the game hanging in the balance, Gabuya drove into the teeth of the defense and drew a foul. With Batch 2009 already in the penalty situation, Gabuya calmly sank the first before missing the second.
With time running out, Crossfit Subtero’s Joseph Roma heaved a Hail-Mary shot from halfcourt that did miss to give the win and 2-1 series victory to Cottonseed.
Gabuya, after scoring a whopping 32 in Game 2 to knot the series up at 1-1, scored 17 in the deciding game while Albert Villegas had 12 points, seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.
Cherwill Solon led Batch 2009 with 11 markers.
