Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña described as “bad news” the relief of Chief Supt. Jose Mario Espino from his post as Police Regional Office (PRO-7) chief.

“Wow. I’m surprised. I get along very well with Espino. That’s bad news for me. I’m getting along with him.,” Osmeña said.

Espino was under investigation by Camp Crame on charges that he demanded g payola from illegal gamblers in Central Visayas.

“I have not heard. I have heard rumors like that. But I have not heard from the underground,” Osmeña said.

The mayor said what he heard was that Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Michael Dino wanted Espino out in Central Visayas.

“I heard Michael Dino making sumbong (to Malacañang) about his (Espino’s alleged involvement on) gambling, whatever. I think it is more politics,” Osmeña said.

Despite Espino’s relief, Osmeña said the security preparations for Sinulog 2018 are unchanged.
