After a year of hiatus, contingent from Panglao, Bohol is making a comeback in this year’s Sinulog grand parade, with its performance featuring the love story between a Boholano and Cebuana.

Choreographer Alex Salon on Thursday said their storyline tells about a Boholano fisherman and parol maker who fell in love with an upper class Cebuana.

“There’s a discrimination involved because of their respective standing in life,” Salon said.

Despite the socioeconomic status gap between the two, the Sto. Niño grants the man’s prayer.

“He makes a wish (to Sto. Niño) at the Basilica church during the Misa de Gallo. Right after the ninth day, they meet and his wish is granted,” Salon said.

On Thursday, the Panglao contingent, billeted at City Central School, was rushing to finish their props, particularly the small and giant parols.

Also included as props are the local “panggao” fishing gear and the world-famous Panglao beach, serving as backdrop, Salon said.

In 2016, the group showcased the famous destinations in Bohol, the opening of their international airport, and the hospitality of Panglaonons who are always ready to welcome tourists.

The group, consisted of 80 performers, 300 props personnel and a lead dancer, is one of the five out-of-town contingents which signified presence on Sunday.
