THE pride of Talisay City, Roger Pogoy, has taken advantage of his role off the bench for the Talk N Text KaTropa and was named this week’s PBA Player of the Week in the ongoing Philippine Cup.
A former product of the University of Cebu before he was named Rookie of the Year last season, Pogoy has competed like a seasoned veteran in stellar performances over Blackwater Elite and Meralco.
Pogoy averaged 19.5 points, 6.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.0 steal in TNT’s two-game win streak which proved enough to propel them into a tie for third place with the Alaska Aces.
The young Cebuano hotshot was on fire against the Elite, scoring eight of his 24 points in the third canto to help transform a seven-point deficit into a 65-57 lead heading to the last quarter.
TNT kept its hot-shooting form from there for a, 92-83 win against Blackwater last Wednesday with Pogoy hitting 10 of his 14 attempts from the floor.
The former Far Eastern U standout also added eight rebounds, three assists and two steals in a solid all-around effort.
Four days later, the young wingman joined forces with teammate Troy Rosario in taking down Meralco, 99-81.
Pogoy had 15 points, grabbed four rebounds, added two steals and issued an assist as the Katropa improved to 3-2 overall.
