Ruru Madrid admits new found love for dogs

Ruru and Serena

RURU Madrid is back on the teleserye grind for his first title role series titled, “Sherlock Jr.” which premieres tonight on GMA Network.

The 20-year-old actor plays Sherlock Calubaquib Jackson Jr., an investigative writer who will solve crimes with the help of his wonder dog named Serena.

“It’s light action, drama, comedy. Well, everything. Sobrang light ng show na ‘to,” Madrid told Cebu Daily News in a recent interview. And since there is “light action,” the actor prepared for his role by continuing his mixed martial arts (MMA) and parkour trainings.

Madrid is no newbie in action as he already tried doing action stunts in “Encantadia” and “Alyas Robinhood.”

“Actually lahat ng aspect ng buhay mo ipapakita dito. Like for example, sa family natin,” he said about the new show’s genre. He admitted that  because of the new series, he had a sudden change of heart when it comes to dogs.

“Si Serena, sobrang nakakagaan po. Honestly, before takot ako sa aso. Hindi ko kayang humawak. Pero the first time I saw Serena, it was love at first sight,” he said.

“Ahm, di ko i-nexpect na ganoon ako magmamahal sa aso. Siyempre noong una may adjustment parin like nagugulat ako pag tumitingin siya sakin or may ginagawa. Pero mararamdaman mo po kasi na sobrang lambing niya,” he added.

Madrid described Serena as “intelligent and obedient.”

Because of Serena, he is now comfortable carrying his sister’s dog at home.

“Dati di ko kayang kargahin ‘yun ‘eh or hawakan. Ngayon kinakarga ko na. Binibilhan ko na siya ng gamit. Bigla nalang akong napamahal sa dogs,” he said.

Madrid and co-star Matt Evans were in Cebu City together with other Kapuso artists to promote GMA Network’s new shows including “Sherlock Jr.” Madrid also joined GMA’s Sinulog 2018 float last Jan. 21.

Directed by Rechie del Carmen, “Sherlock Jr.” also stars Gabbi Garcia, Janine Gutierrez, Tonton Gutierrez, Andre Paras, Yanna Asistio, Roi Vinzon, Sofia Pablo, Kate Valdez, Sharmaine Arnaiz, Rochelle Barrameda, and Aiai delas Alas.
