CIS takes a stand on Eco-Leadership and Plastic Waste Reduction

Students from Cebu International School (CIS) took a step towards promoting environmental conservation by hosting an Eco-Leadership Training followed by a Plastic Waste Reduction Conference on February 12 to 15. The training aims to bring together students from across the province and help guide them to plan and lead environmental conservation programs in their own schools.

The first CIS Plastic Waste Reduction Conference was held today, February 15. The conference raised awareness of the growing worldwide environmental problems stemming from single-use plastics and empower students about the dangers of continued use of plastic. This is deemed as a very important community issue as the Philippines is among the top five plastic polluters in the world based on a recent study. The school is hopeful that these programs will empower students to initiate change and find sustainable solutions. Conference speakers include Fablab UP Cebu and DTI Cebu Australian Volunteer Jeremy Brun, Operation Smile Founder and CEO William Magee, and Mandaue City Mayor Hon. Luigi Quisumbing. /PR
