Mother of abandoned child is a 17-year-old teenager
The mother of the newborn baby girl found on top of a floating garbage has been identified by Lapu-Lapu City’s Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The baby was found by one of the residents of Sitio Camansi, Barangay Pajo in the said city at around 1:30 p.m., Thursday afternoon.
The mother, a 17-year old eatery helper who resides in the area, admitted to Cebu Daily News that she abandoned her baby because she feels incompetent to raise her child.
The mother secretly gave birth inside their comfort room yesterday and left the baby where it was found.
Her boyfriend of two months, whom she identified as the father of the baby, left her.
She was compelled to quit her job during her pregnancy but concealed such fact to her family.
Pajo Barangay Captain Junard Chan and personnel from Lapu-Lapu City DSWD took the mother to the hospital for medical aid.
