Millares rules inaugural 10-ball at Big Boom sa Sugbo
CUE artists from Luzon grabbed the top four slots in yesterday’s conclusion of the 10-Ball Billiard Tournament at the Big Boom sa Sugbo in the South Road Properties (SRP).
After a 14-hour battle featuring the top 16 billiards aces from around the country, William Millares Jr., of Pangasinan hoisted the event’s inaugural trophy after beating 2017 World 9-Ball Championship finalist Roland Garcia in the finals.
Millares Jr. also beat sentimental favorite Efren “Bata” Reyes in the semifinals, relegating the pool legend to third place. Patrick Gonzales, also of Pangasinan, finished fourth.
Cebuanos Mak-mak Malayan and Anton Raga, made it to the Top 8 but failed to advance further.
Tournament coordinator Engr. Greg Pacres was elated over the success of the event. “It was successful. We managed to reintroduce professional billiards,” he said. “Unfortunately, no local talents made it to the top four but we’ll get there someday,” he added.
“We will try our best together with the PSC, to hold this again during the Sinulog week,” he said. “And we’ll see if we can hold it in a more accessible venue like Robinson’s Galleria.”
Millares Jr. pocketed P110,000 while Garcia settled for P70,000. “Bata” Reyes got P50,000 while Gonzales bagged P30,000.
