The Seal of Excellence in Education Development program of the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc. (RAFI-SEED) held its awarding ceremony last May 11, 2018 at the Cebu Grand Convention Center.

Now on its second year, the RAFI-SEED is an annual data-gathering, monitoring, evaluating, and awards program which identifies outstanding public elementary and secondary schools in Cebu using an evidence-based scorecard.

RAFI gave a total of P6.8 million in grant prizes to the top schools. The prizes can be used to address gaps or needs identified in the SEED assessments.

This year’s top schools in the elementary category are Mabolo Elementary School in Cebu City (champion) with P1.5 million prize; La Paz Elementary School in Bogo City (second place) with P1 million, and Maguikay Elementary School in Mandaue City (third place) with P500,000.

The fiinalists in the elementary category, namely Napo Elementary School in Carcay City and Boljoon Central Elementary School in Boljoon, Cebu also received P200,000 grant prize each.

For the secondary school category, the winners were Jovencio N. Masong National High School in Bogo City (champion), which received P1.5 million, followed by second placer Mantalongon National High School in Dalaguete, Cebu that pocketed 1 million, and third placer Gelacio Babao Sr. Memorial National High School in Carcar City which took home P500,000, while the finalists were Adlaon Integrated School in Cebu City and Jagobiao National High School in Mandaue City, both receiving P200,000.

This year’s champion in the secondary category, Jovencio N. Masong National High School of Bogo City was awarded second placer last year.

“Through SEED we are able to fulfill our dreams of satisfying the needs of our students. We (in Jovencio Masong NHS) are proud to be the SEED champion. Thank you very much RAFI-SEED. You are our spotlight,” said school principal Philip Bercero.

Aside from the awards, the schools were also acknowledged for their efforts, initiatives and best practices to make the education experience of the school children worthwhile. These initiatives were showcased in the Education Experience (EdX) forum during the awarding ceremony where they shared their best practices in Organization Management, Instruction, Learning Environment and Performance through entertaining videos and live presentations.

“It is our hope that the SEED program will be an inspiration for all public schools in Cebu, to aspire and be high-performing schools, delivering quality education to all learners and being role models for other schools to emulate,” Jon Ramon Aboitiz, the RAFI Chairman of the Board said.
