Cebu is pilot area for national ID system
Cebu and other urban centers in Central Visayas will be selected as pilot areas for the national ID system, the regional office of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
“In what I understand, there’s a pilot testing to be done in strategic locations and centers. Probably, Cebu will be included for region 7 because Cebu is a highly urbanize area,” PSA regional information officer Noel Rafols said.
President Rodrigo Duterte signed into law Republic Act (R.A.) 11055 or the Philippine Identification (ID) System Act last Aug. 6.
The law’s implementing rules and regulations (IRR) is expected to come out after 60 days based on section 23 of R.A. 11055. PSA will be the lead agency in implementing the new law.
Rafols said they are still waiting for specific guidelines from their Manila office on the law.
“The new ID system is an all in one ID, wherein demographic datas from GSIS, SSS, PhilHealth, Pagibig Comelec, PHLPost and among others were embeded to that ID,” he said.
Rafols said only information from the Land Transportation System (LTO) for their license and the Department of Foreign Affairs’ passport were not included in the new ID system.
The ID includes the full name of the card holder, gender, date and place of birth, blood type, address, nationality, biometrics information, front facing photograph, full set of fingerprints and iris scan. Marital status, mobile number and email address are just optional.
