The opposition PDP-Laban Barug Team Rama bloc won’t attend the contract signing for the P18 billion Kawit Island project at the South Road Properties (SRP).

The contract signing between Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña and officials of Universal Hotel Resorts, Inc., will be held in Crown Plaza Galleria, Ortigas Avenue in Metro Manila on Aug. 17.

City Councilor Joel Garganera, a Barug Team Rama bloc member, said they were invited by the mayor in a letter sent to Vice-Mayor Edgardo Labella.

Garganera said the council had yet to approve the resolution that authorized the contract signing. He said the mayor’s wife Councilor Margot Osmena deferred the minutes of their previous session that lasted for two days.

Garganera said the council had yet to settle their house rules on reviving resolutions that were previously rejected which included the Kawit Island joint venture deal between the city and UHRI.

He said the PDP-Laban Barug Team Rama bloc won’t attend the contract signing since the council didn’t authorize the mayor to do so.
