The University of San Carlos (USC) Lady Warriors shrugged off their first loss last weekend with a convincing four sets win against the University of Southern Philippines Foundation Lady Panthers in the ongoing 2018 Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation, Inc. (Cesafi) collegiate volleyball competition held yesterday at the USPF gym in its Lahug campus.

The USC Lady Warriors recovered from a tough loss, a three set sweep, against University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Lady Jaguars last Sept. 30 with a 22-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-13, thrashing of USPF.

USC head coach Grace Antigua, however, is still not satisfied with her team’s performance saying they still have a lot of hard work to do.

“We have to work on especially our defense and blocking, although there are positions that we are effective and also there are positions that we are ineffective,” said the veteran coach Antigua.

The Lady Warriors inflicted the Lady Panthers with their first loss and improved to two wins with one defeat, the same record as the Lady Panthers now have.

According to Antigua, her team only got lucky that the Lady Panthers had a lot of trouble from their unforced errors despite playing in their home court.

“There’s a lack of connection between the setter and the center of our team. What is important for me is the center or the spiker,” added Antigua.

“We do not have any advantage against them. We just got lucky because they had a lot of errors even though they showcased great defense and blocking our attacks. Overall, I am not satisfied with the team’s performance considering that we lost to USJ-R. We still lack a lot of things essential to the team and we will work on it.”

The Lady Warriors will face the University of Cebu (UC) today at 3:30 p.m., still at the USPF gym.
