Talisay Mayor Gullas seeking to close his political career as congressman
Talisay City Mayor Eduardo Gullas Sr. would like to end his career as a congressman, a post that he held when he started his political career.
Incumbent Rep. Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas said this about his grandfather’s run for a Cebu first district Congress run.
“My Grandfather (Talisay Mayor Eduardo Gullas Sr.) told me that he is already 88 years old. He is already 88 this coming election. Then this would be his last niya nga pagdagan so he would like to end his career the way he started it way back 1969 where he started as a congressman. He would like to end his career 50 years after in 2019 as congressman as well,” said Congressman Gullas.
Mayor Gullas and his Alayon party mates filed their certificates of candidacy (COCs) on Wednesday at the Commission on Election office at the Talisay City Hall.
Before they filed their COCs, Gullas and his group attended a Mass at the Sto. Nino Parish in Barangay Pooc, Talisay City, a Mass attended by hundreds of their supporters.
With Mayor Gullas running for Cebu’s 1st district Congress seat, incumbent Representative Gullas will run for Talisay City mayor’s seat. His runningmate is incumbent Vice Mayor Allan Bucao.
Representative Gullas’ councilor-candidates include incumbent Councilors Socrates Fernandez, Rodi Cabigas, Antonio Bacaltos Jr., Julian “Teban” Daan.
His other councilor-candidates are Maning Cabriana, Gail Restauro, Ricky Aznar, Fe Ylanan, Yehyen Bucao, and Ferdie Rabaya.
Representative Gullas said that his priorities for the city if he would become the mayor, would include focusing on strengthening the programs on health and education, making Barangay Poblacion as a tourist destination and strengthening the barangay disaster risk reduction and management office.
He said he would also look into programs to fight the illegal drug trade in the city.
Representative Gullas and the Alayon party led by his grandfather had earlier shown their support to Rep. Gwendolyn Garcia’s run for governor.
Representative Gullas will be vying for the mayoralty post against former Talisay Mayor Johnny “JVR” delos Reyes.
Meanwhile, former Talisay City Vice Mayor Romeo Villarante will also make another shot at the vice mayor’s post in the next elections.
Villarante, who has no runningmate, is running under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) and will support Vice Gov. Agnes Magpale’s run for governor.
Villarante also has only three candidates for councilors they are former Councilor Dennis Basillote, former Councilor Aldin Diaz, and Sherwen Echavez.
