PROVIDING alternative livelihood to illegal gun manufacturers in Danao City is the solution to curb the underground gun-making industry the city is infamously known for.
Director Benjamin Magalong, chief of the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), said gun makers in Danao will only stop if they will have a decent job.
“Livelihood nila to, eh. It needs local executives’ assistance,” Magalong said.
Magalong presented to reporters about a hundred assorted guns including high-powered firearms worth almost P.5 million at the CIDG-7 headquarters.
He admitted that gun-making in Danao City is a big problem of law enforcement agencies and said solving it needs a comprehensive approach as it involves livelihood.
“Yes, I urge local officials to provide them job,” Magalong said.
Some gun makers in Danao City were arrested several times as they return to their lucrative business after posting bail.
Magalong is also not in favor of legalizing gun making in Danao City as it would mean low quality guns will proliferate in the market which compromises the safety of the owners and the public.
He urged CIDG-7 operatives headed by Senior Supt. Ritchie Posadas to continue with their aggressive operations against loose firearms.
Since Posadas assumed office in August last year, he and his men have conducted 33 operations against loose firearms and seized a total of 95 assorted guns including 45 high powered guns and arrested 39 persons.
