Cebu City, Philippines — Batch 2008-2009 opened their campaign in Division 2 on a winning note as they slipped past 2011, 77-75, thanks to a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Noel Daigo Jr. at the start of the 2019 Don Bosco Cup last Sunday, March 24, 2019, at the Don Bosco Technical College gym in Labangon.

Down one with just seconds to go, 2008-2009 found Daigo in the corner, who let fly a high-looping three that found the bottom of the net as time expired to give them thrilling victory.

John Velasco fired in 29 points to pace the winning side in the competition that seeks to bring Don Bosco Cebu alumni “home,” according to Don Bosco Cebu Alumni Inc. president, Inting Escobido.

In other games in Division 2, 2018 got the best of 2014, 56-54, as Imran Escobido led the way for the winners with his 11 points.

In Division 1 action, 2001 crushed 1995 behind the 22 points of Rey Lipardo. The writing on the wall was clear as early as the first canto as 2001 raced off to a 16-2 advantage and never looked back.

1998 also won over 1994, 61-46, behind Garby Mahinay’s 16 points. /bmjo
