Cebu City, Philippines — Penthel kept its hopes for a spot in the next round alive with a 67-61 win over Jeps Merchandise in the Duterte Basketball League on Sunday, March 24, 2019, at the Capitol Parish Gym along Escario Street here.
Former University of Cebu (UC) big man Ruben Ludovice scored 17 points while James Ferraren added 15 to help push Penthel’s record to 2-3 (win-loss).
H&G, meanwhile, remained unbeaten in five games as it outlasted last season’s runners-up, Paragsa, 89-83.
Allan Sala led the way for the winners with 29 points while Mark Gonzales added 19.
In other games, Journey to Recovery shocked the reigning champions, Lycans, with a 91-82 upset.
Ricky Berdin paced JTR with 29 markers even as Brian Gomez put up 16.
The Sherilin Warriors also stayed in the hunt for a spot in the next round as they routed HLT & JDC, 78-62.
Big man Cid Cortes led the team of businessman Richard Mercado, with 18 points while point guard Dave Guardiario put up 14 markers.
Only the top four finishers at the end of the single round-robin elims will get to advance to the Final Four. /bmjo
