DANAO CITY, Cebu— Reelectionist Senator Paolo Benigno “Bam” Aquino is banking on Cebu voters to carry him through the “Magic 12” in the May 2019 senatorial race.

Aquino, who joined the campaign caravan of the Magpale-Davide tandem in northern Cebu as the local campaign period kicked off today, March 29, said he was hoping the support that the Cebuanos gave him in 2013 would still be evident in this May polls.

“Mahalaga ang Cebu I did very well here in 2013. VP Leni  (Robredo) did very well here in 2016, and we are hoping na yung supportang iyon ay hindi makakalimutan ng mga tao at mauulit yung supportang iyon. I finished second here in 2013,” Aquino said.

(Cebu is important. I did very well her in 2013. VP Leni (Robredo) did very well here in 2016, and we are hoping that support would not be forgotten at would be repeated in the election. I finished second here in 2013.)

In his engagements here in Cebu, Aquino said he would want to emphasize the work that he had done in the Senate in his first term especially in the law for free college education.

“Mahalaga na ma-correct at malinaw sa taumbayan na tayo ang principal sponsor ng batas sa libreng kolehiyo pero mas mahalaga pa diyan ay marami pa tayong gustong gawing reporma sa edukasyon,” Aquino.

(It is important to make it clear to the people that we are the principal sponsor of the law on free college education. However what is more important is that we still have a lot of reforms in education that we still have to do.)

Cebu has been a destination of national candidates since the start of the campaign period for national officials February 13, all eyeing to win the hearts of the province’s 3 million voters.

“We hope  na kung nagnanais ang mga tao ng magsusulong ng mga reporma sa edukasyon at sa mga sektor na nangangailangan ay maaalala nila ang inyong lingkod,” Aquino said.

(We hope that people will remember us, especially those who wish to pursue reforms in education and those sectors that needed reforms.)

Aside from Aquino, the other senatorial candidates who are carried in the campaign caravan of the tandem of Vice Governor Agnes Magpale, who is running for governor, and her running mate, incumbent Governor Hilario Davide III, are Senators JV Ejercito, Cynthia Villar, and Serge Osmeña.
