CEBU CITY, Philippines — A Duljo Fatima resident, who was previously arrested for snatching and possession of illegal drugs in the Barangay Mambaling area, has been identified as the man who robbed and killed a student at Tres de Abril St. in Barangay Labangon last March 29.

A complaint of Robbery with Homicide had already been filed last April 5 against Rizford Laurez, who is also known as Clifford Laurez, at the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office, said Police Captain Arieza Otida, Public Information Officer of the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) in a press briefing on Sunday, April 7.

Otida said that the complaint was filed despite Laurez of Sitio Odom, Barangay Duljo Fatima, not being arrested yet.

Police Major Keith Allen Andaya, Labangon Police Precinct chief, said in a separate interview that Laurez was caught on three security cameras in Tres de Abril Street at the time of the robbery.

Andaya was referring to robbery-killing of Jovanie Lligoso Pat, 21, of Barangay Mambaling, who was robbed and shot dead along Tres de Abril as he was heading home with his girlfriend.

Andaya said that Laurez was allegedly previously arrested for snatching and for possession of illegal drugs.

He said they went to Laurez house after he was identified as a suspect in the robbery-killing of Pat, but Laurez was not there.

Last April 2, police arrested a member of the Barangay Mayor’s Office of Barangay Toong, Cebu City in a checkpoint in Barangay Buhisan, Cebu City after they found a gun hidden in his motorcycle’s utility box.

Redjie Cabingatan was then tagged as a possible suspect in the killing of Pat but police eventually found out that he had nothing to do with the Tres de Abril robbery./dbs
