Cebu City, Philippines—Cebu will be under red alert starting tomorrow, April 23, 2019, for the celebration of the National Youth Day, which is expected to gather 12,000 pilgrims from all over the country.

Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas, director of the Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7), said the Philippine National Police (PNP) will increase the security following the recent bombings of churches in Sri Lanka, which killed more than 200 people.

But Sinas said there will be no cellphone signal shut down since the participants will be the youth and their parents would need to contact them from time to time.

Sinas, however, clarified that there is no imminent threat yet in Central Visayas. /bmjo
