CEBU CITY, Philippines—The Department of Labor and Employment in Central Visayas (DOLE-7) is organizing three job fairs in Cebu and one in Dumaguete City to mark this year’s Labor Day celebration.

DOLE-7 Director Salome Siaton dsaid that over 18,000 local and overseas jobs would be made available during the four job fairs scheduled on May 1.

DOLE-7 is currently busy preparing for the 117th Labor Day celebration in the region.

In a statement, Siaton said the job fairs will be held at SM City Cebu, the main venue of the May 1 activities, Cebu Provincial Capitol, Mandaue Sports Complex and Robinson’s Place in Dumaguete City.

Around 860 local positions and 7,658 overseas jobs will be available at the job fair at SM City Cebu Trade Hall, which will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“What makes the conduct of Job Fair at SM City Cebu slightly different from the rest of the Job Fairs is it is being patterned after the idea of Trabaho, Negosyo, at Kabuhayan (TNK), whereby jobseekers, who would not be lucky enough to get a job would have an option to go to the Negosyo Center of the Department of Trade and Industry to get business counseling, some tips in starting up a business and other services,” Siaton explained.

DTI’s Negosyo Center will form part of the TNK area along with the Kasambahay Desk of the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB-7).

Another component of said job fair is the provision of the One-Stop-Shop Services involving different government agencies. The One-Stop-Shop Services located at the second floor of the SM City Cebu and the Government Service Express Center will be offering services to clients from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

The three other job fairs will start at 8 a.m. and end at 5 p.m.

Siaton advised jobseekers to bring requirements such as biodata; 2×2 picture; certificate of employment if applicable; diploma/transcript of records; and authenticated birth certificate.

This year, the 117th Labor Day celebration in the region will be hosted by the Industry Tripartite Council (ITC) in Construction. /dcb
