CEBU CITY, Philippines—The University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) secondary volleyball team representing Central Visayas won its first game against  Region 12 SOCCSKSARGEN in the ongoing 2019 Palarong Pambansa in Davao City.

USPF/Central Visayas defeated SOCCSKSARGEN in straight sets on Monday, April 29, 2019.  Today, April 30, 2019, the team was set to face Western Visayas.

USPF head coach Yolly Rizarri said that she was worried in the game against SOCCSKSARGEN since they lost against the same team in a. tune-up game.

USPF is hoping to improve their quarterfinals finish last year in Vigan, when they were booted out by Calabarzon.

This is the second time that USPF will be representing Central Visayas in the Palaro.

“To start off, being champions for both CVIRAA and Cebu City Olympics was a wonderful accomplishment. Representing Central Visayas in the Palaro is a big honor for us, USPF, and the rest of my girls,” said Rizarri.

She added that “I also handpicked a few players from other schools like USC and STC and one selection from Tanjay to make the team even more impressive. We worked hard to win, we play hard to win.”

The USPF head coach said that they are truly blessed with this opportunity to play for Central Visayas again.

“I am a very strong believer of hard work achieves any goal. Raw talent can only take you so far. With that being said, it takes plenty of dedication and discipline to cross the finish line with flying colors,” said Rizarri of their preparations for the multi-sporting meet.

According to Rizarri, all members of their team are key players.

“I can’t really say who is the best player in the team, I really can’t. In my eyes they are valuable assets in their own rights. I have seen them grow and develop so much on all aspects of the game. They have improved tremendously and I am very happy with the progress we made so far. In my eyes, they are all aces in my book.” /bmjo
