CEBU CITY, PhilippinesPolice seized 63 packets of shabu from four minors in a drug bust that happened in Sitio Puntod, Barangay Mambaling at 9 p.m., Wednesday, May 1, 2019.

Operatives of the Drug Enforcement Unit of Mambaling Police Station rescued Joel, Juni, Rey and Mac Mac, who are between the ages of 12 and 15.

Police estimated the 63 packets of shabu to be worth P24, 000 based on the Dangerous Drugs Board value.

Police Captain Francis Renz Talosig, chief of Mambaling Police Station, said all four minors are not from Barangay Mambaling.

Joel, 12, is from Barangay Inayawan while Mac Mac, 15, is from Barangay Tejero. Rey, 15, said he is from Mandaue City, while Juni, 14, is from Barangay T. Padilla.

Talosig said parents from Barangay Mambaling reported to police the presence of these minors, who are serving as drug couriers in the area.

Talosig said they formed a surveillance team to check on the area for several days.

When they confirmed that minors are involved in the illegal drug trade, Talosig said they immediately formed a rescue team composed of newly assigned police personnel in Mambaling.

During the drug bust, Joel, 12, could not believe that police caught them red-handed.

In an interview with CDN Digital in the presence of authorities, Joel said another minor enticed them to be drug couriers for a fee of at least P600 per day.

Joel said he is not in school and his parents do not take care of him so he has to fend for himself.

Seized from Joel were 21 small packets of shabu, six packets from Mac Mac, 28 packets from Rey and eight packets from Juni.

Talosig said all four boys have parents, who will be summoned to the police station on today, Thursday, May 2.

The four minors are currently under the custody of the Women and Children Protection Desk of Mambaling Police Station.

They will be formally endorsed to Operation Second Chance today, Thursday, May 2, 2019. / celr
