La Carlota netters win big in PSC-Philta net
THE Boys’ 14-Under top player Adrian de Hertogh and second-seed Karl Baran barged into the quarterfinal round of the 3rd leg of the Philippine Sports Commission-Philippine Lawn Tennis Association Visayas Junior Tennis Championships at the Montevista Tennis Association’s (Monta) tennis courts in Bacolod City.
Both were playing their Final 8 games as of presstime yesterday against separate foes hoping to inch closer to a dream title match in their division.
De Hertogh was playing Eldyzar Abarico while Baran was battling Jerome Gavitoya in the Group 2 Philta event.
Also securing seats in the quarterfinals of the Boys 14-Under are Cesar Fernando Po, a 6-0, 7-6 (5) winner over Adrian Javier. He will meet Rewel Justiniani in the quarters. Also in the Last 8 are Joshua Martin Saravia and Reynan Mahusay.
The Girls 14-Under quarterfinalists include, Erica Sevilla, who defeated Tracy Llamas, 6-1, 6-3; Keziah Mae Miranda, who edged out Chesca Ynson, 4-6, 6-2, 10-4; Yashe Mae Rivera, who won by walkover vs. Nicole Tiangson and Amor Decendario, who crushed Valerie Desoyo, 6-1, 6-0.
The Girls 14-Under top-seeded player, Kiana de Asis, who drew a bye in the earlier rounds, also advanced to the quarterfinals Gillian Geraldoy, 2nd seed Shyryn Salazar and Sunzel Callao.
Meanwhile, the 12-Under Boys quarterfinals cast is composed mostly of players from La Carlota City including Rolando Preston who beat Rewel Justiniani, 6-1, 6-1; Kerwin de Asis who blanked Charles Cando, 6-0, 6-0; Ceasar Fernando Po who routed Carlo Placencia, 6-0, 6-0 and Rich John de Jilla who beat Joshua Raymundo, 6-0, 7-5.
Preston and de Asis will face each other for a seat in the semifinals, while the other Last 8 matches pit Po vs. de Jilla, Pete Andre Rodriguez vs. Alekzander Po and Japeth Selarta vs. Reynan Mahusay.
Quarterfinalists in the 10-Under Unisex category are Hilary Wayco, Clark Dioso, Mika Medina and Pete Andre Rodriguez.
The La Carlota City players were led by head trainor Atet Guba of the Roberto S. Benedicto Tennis Center and supported by their Mayor Yoyette Ferrer and Vice Mayor Jacky Jalandoni.
