Men’s division defending champion Cebu Queen City United Football Club (CQCUFC) inched closer to the finals round anew after routing the Avengers FC, 7-0, in the quarterfinals of the ongoing Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday at the Aboitiz Sports Field.

It was total domination for the powerhouse CQCUFC as it closed the first half with a 2-0 lead before finishing off Avengers FC in the second half with five goals en route to a seat in the semifinal round.

Madi Taniform and Aljohn Armamento were the scorers for CQCUFC in the first half while Niji Cyrille, Pintho Kabulo, Dan Villarico, Junard Aguilar and Jonny Davidson chipped in one each in the second half for the dominating victory.

Out to take a crack at the men’s open title are other semifinalists Samba FC, Leylam FC and University of Cebu-Bro Nationals FC.

Samba FC staged a huge upset after beating the formidable ERCO FC, 2-0, in the other quarterfinals match yesterday.

Ahmed Hilobili and Jibrin Musa towed Samba FC past ERCO, scoring a goal each.
The University of Cebu-Bro Nationals FC trounced San Roque Rehab, 5-0, in the another quarterfinal game.

Okrikra Famous led the winning team by nailing two goals in the second half while teammates Tolar, Emmanuel Erigbe and Charles Emeji added one goal each.

Leylam FC, meanwhile, won over the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Alumni FC by default.

USJ-R gave up its semis seat after deciding to focus on their training for the upcoming Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) National Games on April 6 to 12 in Tagum City. USJ-R will join the Region VII team that will compete in the said national multi-sporting meet.
