Transportation and communications Secretary Joseph Abaya inaugurated the newly repaired passenger terminal of Pier 1 in Cebu City.

The spacious and cleaner passenger terminal was opened on Nov. 21. The whole facility is air conditioned and has a first-aid station, children’s corner, meditation room, cafeteria and coffee shop.

The building started was a warehouse acquired by the government in 1930.

Abaya said the ‘new’ facility will make the passengers feel more comfortable while waiting to board for their trip. “We build very complicated projects that take time but the public has the right to be impatient all the time, but we as public servants must respond to that,” Abaya said in response complaints of project delay.

He also announced that Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) is planning to transfer the container port currently located at the Cebu International Port (CIP) to Tayud in Consolacion town as the CIP already congested.
