Region 7 netters bag 8 golds in National Prisaa
Tagum City, Davao del Norte— It was Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) Region 7 netters’ time to shine on Tuesday after its men’s and women’s lawn tennis teams snared a total of eight gold medals by dominating the team event of the Prisaa National Games at the Davao del Norte Sports and Tourism Complex here.
The men’s lawn tennis squad, anchored by University of San Carlos’ (USC) Bernadine “Nino” Siso and Fritz Satera, University of the Visayas’ (UV) Marc Norman Enriquez and Janel Triy Pintor, University of San Jose-Recoletos’ (USJ-R) Israel Abarquez and Holy Name University of Bohol’s Zacharias Castro III, blanked their Region 11 (Davao Region) foes, 2-0, to snare the four golds at stake.
Not to be outdone, the distaff side, composed of USC’s Kezia Jabines, Claire Lazaga, Sally Mae and Sallydine Siso, and UV’s Jovelyn Barquin, unleashed their own version of a rout as they also blanked their opponents from Region 6 (Western Visayas) to add another four golds.
At the pool, USC Warriors pride Loren Dale Echavez, Keith Ocampo and Lister Ray Tungala continued their winning ways as they plucked a gold medal each in their respective categories in the tertiary division with Echavez winning her third gold medal in the week-long competition by ruling the 800-meter freestyle event in 10 minutes and 48.91 seconds.
Ocampo endured the grueling 30-lap grind to secure the men’s 1,500m freestyle event as he finished the race in 19:03.00, while Tungala won his second gold by lording the 100m butterfly event in 1:04.3.
Late Monday, the 4×100 freestyle relay team of Prisaa 7, composed of Chi, John Beltran, Ocampo and Cane, also won the gold.
Eight gold medals were also doled out by the karatedo team of Prisaa 7 on Monday after dominating the kata event at the NCCC Mall.
Vince Harvey Cabrera of USJ-R and Ann Marie dela Riarte of UC led the gold medal haulers of karatedo coach Manuel Aloba as they won the men’s and women’s individual kata honors, respectively, while the men’s team kata, anchored by UC’s Ryan Lemoneras, Giovanni Lariosa and Jamiel Gamao, and the women’s team kata, comprised of dela Riarte, Jullienne Racuya and Francis Lyn Dajunan, also won three golds each in their respective divisions.
In the secondary division, Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu’s Enrico Avila won his third gold medal in the competition after ruling the secondary boys’ 200m run, while teammate, Shanelle Demilys Siasoyco won her second gilt as she lorded the secondary girl’s discus throw event with her record of 23.02 meters.
The official medal standing in the multisporting event is being released by tournament organizers at 9 a.m. everyday. The aforementioned results were not yet added to the last official standing released yesterday morning. As of 9 a.m. yesterday, Region 6 (Western Visayas) was leading the official standings.
