More help needed for earthquake-stricken Mindanao provinces
CEBU CITY, Philippines — The Cebu provincial government continues to call for donations for the earthquake-stricken provinces in Mindanao.
Wilson Ramos, officer-in-charge of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), said they would encourage donors to give hygiene kits, food, water and sleeping materials since these are the most immediate needs of the survivors.
Governor Gwendolyn Garcia said the province will also extend financial assistance to the severely affected local government units (LGUs).
However, Garcia said the provincial government has yet to decide on the amount.
As of Monday morning, November 4, 2019, only a box full of instant noodles has been handed to the Sugbo Alang sa Mindanao donation drive at the Capitol.
Ramos said they are donations may still come especially that those who spent the All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day have yet to return to the city today.
The PSWDO has started to accept donations for the earthquake victims in Mindanao last Saturday, November 2, 2019.
A banner with the list of preferred relief items has been set up at the M. Velez gate of the Capitol which is the designated drop off point of the donations. /bmjo
