Cebuano dance group thankful for Body Rock Asia experience
CEBU CITY, Philippines— The Exporters may have not won in the Body Rock Asia competition but the group cherished the experience they gained from the prestigious tilt.
Body Rock is known to be the grandest urban dance competition and the “Superbowl of the Dance Community.” It was held in Asia for the first time last February 16, 2020, at the Theater Solaire.
The Exporters from Cebu was one of the many hopefuls who represented the country.
Ryan Canda, the founder of The Exporters, told CDN Digital how overwhelming it was being on stage with world-class dancers.
“Regarding the competition, sobrang overwhelming yung experience namin. Di man kami nakapasok sa top 3 pero ang dami naming natutunan,” said Canda.
(We were very overwhelmed with the experience we gained. we weren’t able to make it to the top 3 but we learned a lot.)

A spot in the final three would have sent the group to compete in the Body Rock USA. Despite failing, the group still hopes for better opportunities after this experience.
“Out of 133 crew around Asia who submitted videos, we got into sa top 35 and that is victory enough,” he said.
To be able to qualify for the Body Rock Asia, dance groups around Asia must send a dance video to the Body Rock staff and wait for their confirmatory email.
“What we submitted for our dance video is an old dance video. Ang video kay katong gi compete namo sa VIBE PH. But for our routine for the Body Rock Asia, we prepared it for three months,” added Canda.
Aside from Body Rock, the group also joined the World of Dance PH Season 1, and represented the country in the Battle Championship in Australia. /bmjo
