INTERIOR Secretary Manuel Roxas yesterday launched an instructional journal that gives mayors and local officials a step by step guide on what to do in dealing with disasters.

Speaking before mayors from Luzon provinces attending the convention of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) which is being held in Cebu City, the interior secretary said the objective of the LGU Disaster Preparedness Journal is to synchronize the protocols and procedures that local officials should do so that they will all be looking at the same page before, during and after a storm.

“We expect that all the mayors will have a uniform and basic set of actions when storms hit their area,” Roxas said in his speech.Instead of “interpreting scientific data provided by state weather bureau on storm advisories, mayors can now focus on ensuring that their communities are ready,” he said.

The journal was developed through a series of consultation with national and local government agencies, civil society organizations, the academe and the private sector.Later in the afternoon, Roxas gave away “go bags” or disaster backpack kits to students attending a forum on disaster preparedness at the Cebu Coliseum.

Each bag contains a first aid kit, a rope, flashlight and a whistle.
