CEBU CITY, Philippines—The Cebu City Department of Public Services (DPS) has updated the schedule of garbage collection here.

This was in response to the mandate of Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella to give residents more time to dispose their garbage and prevent the accumulation of trash on the streets.

The Anti-Basura Action Team (Abat) will collect the garbage in three shifts daily.

The first shift will begin at 4 a.m. until 12 p.m. for main thoroughfares.

Simultaneously, the second shift will begin from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for government offices, schools, hospitals, business establishments, and other commercial centers.

The third shift will begin from 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. for the main thoroughfares of the city again.

Anti-littering ordinance

Residents are prohibited from dumping their trash at the pick-up points outside of the scheduled shifts.

There will be two shifts for dumping garbage from 4 a.m. to 6 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Dumping garbage in the designated pick up points outside the dumping time will constitute a violation of anti-littering ordinance.

A violator can be fined from P1,000 for first offense up to P3,000 on multiple offenses.

Laywer John Jigo Dacua, the head of DPS, said that charges will be filed against multiple violators and they can also be imprisoned for up to a month. /bmjo
